Chile is marching towards a new constitution – Brenza Latin

This is evidenced by the election of the President of the Conference, chaired by the eminent academic Eliza Lonson, for the first time in the history of this country that the representative of the Mapuch people holds the first important responsibility.

After confirming her success, Lawson delivered a brief speech in Maputungan and Spanish, in which she assured that ‘this conference will transform Chile into a multicultural Chile and a multicultural Chile, which will not violate women’s rights. Let the mother earth take care of it, ‘he said.

‘This is the dream of our ancestors. We can turn this into Chile and establish a new relationship between all the countries that make up this country, ‘he concluded.

As vice president, Jaime Passa, the constitutional lawyer for left-wing Frende Amblio, received 84 votes.

The day began with an atmosphere of celebration and demand as thousands of people took to the streets of the capital.

The majority went with the demonstrations in support of the convention, which, for the first time in history, would allow a constitution to be drafted democratically.

Thus, the conveners’ goal of ‘going round the masses’ sessions was fulfilled, and the key demands for changing the new liberal paradigm created by the 1980 constitution were imposed by the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.

However, serious incidents near the conference headquarters shortly before the start of the conference were forced to be delayed, for this reason the body was formally established only at 1:00 pm local time.

It closes a phase that began with the popular uprising that erupted on October 18, 2019, in which millions of Chileans began to press more and more for constitutional change.

At the crucial moment of the referendum on October 25, 2020, nearly 80 percent of the electorate voted in favor of a new basic law and the way to create a constitutional convention. Those in charge of this work were elected by popular vote, which was unprecedented in this country as all constitutions were drafted and approved by the governing dome.

Now, for the first time in Chilean history, the conference, which includes gender equality, majority independence and the existence of indigenous peoples, begins a new phase of nine months, extending to three people, and was approved by the Chileans in a referendum to create a constitution that should exist.
